Summary:

A bedtime or anytime story! “My Kiss Won’t Miss” demonstrates the constant and pursuing love of a mother when her son sneaks out of bed and hides. Her commitment is this: “If I can’t catch you for a kiss, I’ll blow a kiss and it won’t miss.” There is no hiding place to which her kiss cannot be blown. Yet in the end, a love even greater than a mother’s is revealed!

This story is inspired by Romans 8:38-39 which states that nothing can separate us from the love of God. The illustrations capture the universal quality of God’s love with their diverse character depictions. This book will offer both adventure and comfort appropriate for children ages two to five.

Book Reviews:

“A rare gem . . . a ‘hope chest’ kind of book. The kind that one unearths many years into one’s adulthood. Highly recommended. (Celina Cuadro, Book Ideas)

“Mirela Tufan provides vivid, compelling color illustrations throughout the story and her colors and hues are lovely enhancements of the story line . . .
The rhyme is wonderful, the message simple, and the delivery was very easy to understand, all wrapped up with the lovely supportive illustrations. Christian families seeking a strong starting point for relating God to a young child’s experience will thus find ‘My Kiss Won’t Miss’ an excellent choice. (D. Donovan, Midwest Book Review, e-book Reviewer)

“Blown kisses swirl through the air in search of their designated child in this loving bedtime story whose rhyme and repetition sings like a lullaby. Flowery illustrations portray exquisite locales – from a child drifting to sleep in a barn, to one in a desert, another on the moon – to show that a parent’s tuck-in ritual will reveal their love no matter the distance between them and their kin.” ( Foreword Reviews)

“The mother’s kiss floats on a continuous stream that weaves through each scene’s background―a pastel-colored plume that sparkles and shimmers with unconditional love . . .” (Kirkus Review, kirkusreviews.com)

“ . . . kids are reminded of this love that never ends. This book would be a perfect bedtime read, accompanied by snuggles and a kiss goodnight.” (Alice Berger, Bergers Review)

“A beautiful message delivered in an inspired way, letting children know from an early age that love knows no boundaries, regardless of country or skin color or gender.”  (Amazon Customer Review)

Meet Lesley

I grew up on a small farm in North Dakota. It was rare that I went into town to play, and since my two sisters were each about 7  years apart in age from me, this meant that I spent a lot of time alone. Books were great companions, and I loved riding bike, jumping over self-made obstacle courses (I’m an experienced hay bale jumper), and practicing cartwheels in the yard, as well as in the living room . . . and about anywhere there was space enough for it. Poetry also became a welcome pastime.

Springtime on the farm brought baby chicks to catch and hold.  Summertime transitioned into dodging the pecks of those same chickens as I fed them.  Fall meant many trips around the field with my father, watching the wheat or the corn get sucked up into the combine. Winter was simply cold – very, very cold!  (Thus, my love of hot chocolate.) Above all these memories, picking crocuses in the hills with my mother tops them all. It just doesn’t get much better than that.  To complete this picture simply add a dog, Lassie, a bottle lamb named Milky, and many, many cats.

In the summer of 2002, after graduating magna cum laude from Concordia College, I surrendered my life to Christ. I had completed a BA in Political Science and Philosophy, yet all my expectations of moving forward within these interests suddenly felt conflicted. This time in my life consisted of a tug-of-war between my own expectations and what I felt God was telling me to do.  My original intentions to pursue a law degree no longer seemed to fit.  I developed Plan B and was accepted to seminary, only to sense the Lord telling me I still wasn’t on the right track. Meanwhile, I began volunteering in children’s ministry, in which I now have over a decade of experience teaching anywhere from toddlers to sixth graders.

The most significant ministry responsibility I will ever experience began when my two children were born.  They are my precious treasures entrusted to me for this brief time on earth. It was during this stage in life that I rediscovered my love of children’s books. Hours and hours were spent with a little one in lap and book in hand. Then one day, it just clicked. Poetry was inspired within me again in the form of my first book, My Kiss Won’t Miss.

There are more stories to come . . . time will tell!
